MOXIBUSTION
Moxibustion uses moxa wool as the main material, which is made into a cone or stick.
Moxa wool is burned in a specially made container places on or above the skin surface.
This way, the meridians are warmed and dredged, the circulation of Qi and blood promoted, the patient’s resistance to diseases strengthened and the invading pathogenic factors dispelled.
The Chinese Mugwort plant (Artemisia Vulgaris in Latin and Ai Ye in Chinese), which is the main ingredient in moxibustion, is warm in nature and gives out an aromatic odor.
According to the Dictionary of Chinese Materia Medica, the plant can have the following affects:
- It can help regulate Qi and blood
- Expel cold and dampness
- Warm the meridians
- Stop bleeding.
- Calm the fetus.
- To increase the white blood cells (or leucocytes) which destroy bacteria and thereby contribute to our defence system
